z Bone Stress Injuries: Optimizing Bone Health in Runners and Managing Bone Loads During the Return to Run Process
Note: The recording of this webinar will be available until April 15, 2024.
Instructor: Richard Willy, PT, PhD
Description: More than 30,000 running events occur each year in the United States alone. This number, along with the number of participants and the age of the participants continues to climb. This webinar will discuss the risk factors associated with impaired bone health in runners and how to address them. Specific loading parameters that are tailored to bone will be described, along with how to design a bone loading program to enhance bone health in the runner. The complex nature of bone loading on the tibia and metatarsals during running and how we can influence these loads will be examined. At the end of this webinar, the learner will walk, or run away, with the basis to improve bone health in the runner, while also assisting the runner recovering from a bone stress injury to make a full and durable return to running.
Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe what type of loading parameters influence bone strength in a bone loading program.
- Develop a basic bone loading program to enhance bone strength.
- Define factors that influence loading on the tibia and metatarsal bones while running.
Successful Completion: Participants will watch the on-demand recording in its entirety and complete an attendance verification and assessment in the Academy Learning Portal. You will have until April 15, 2024 to complete and review the course material.
