Body
You’d never know from his humble demeanor that Marty Siegel is one of the top serving volunteers ever at Shirley Ryan 小恩雅. He’s been a volunteer since 2005, giving more than 3,700 hours of service.
The former accountant began volunteering shortly after he retired and has never missed a day, outside of the occasional vacation. Marty has polio and has received outpatient care with us for many years. It’s this experience that inspired him to give back.
He’s worked in several departments over the years, but his favorite assignment was delivering patient mail. He loved walking the floors, greeting people and seeing their improvement over time. Patients who were visually impaired often asked him to open their mail and read aloud to them. Marty enjoyed assisting them in this special way.
Lately, Marty has been working with Human Resources helping prepare materials for new employee orientation.
Marty’s generosity doesn’t end with his time and talent. He supports Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 as a donor as well. In 2015, he made his first donation in support of the flagship hospital and has been giving ever since. In 2023, Marty became a monthly donor.
In his spare time, Marty enjoys reading, swimming at the health club with his wife and spending time with his grandson.
Volunteer Services Manager, Carmen ClarkStokes said, “Marty exhibits kindness and dedication to our organization and patients. Volunteers like Marty make our mission possible.”
We’re grateful for Marty and all the other dedicated volunteers who help improve patients’ lives through their service.
