Clinical Characteristics & Treatment of Primary Progressive Aphasia
Description: During this webinar, we will learn the clinical and pathophysiological characteristics of Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) and explain the clinical and pathophysiological differences of the three types of PPA: Logopenic (PPA-L), Semantic (PPA-S) and Agrammatic/Non-Fluent (PPA-G). The presenter will provide a review of the Life Participation Framework and its application to treating PPA. We will review current evidenced-based treatments for PPA including use of external communication aids, conversational scripting and personally relevant word training. The presenter will also discuss the importance of counseling, caregiver education and training in working with patients with Primary Progressive Aphasia. Case presentations will be utilized to provide salient treatment examples, communication strategies and allow learners opportunities to apply their knowledge.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

- Differentiate clinical characteristics between the three subtypes of PPA
- State three evidenced-based treatments for PPA
- Express two strategies to provide counseling and caregiver education in treatment of PPA
