Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 Becomes First-Ever Rehabilitation Hospital to Earn ChildKind International Certification

Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 recently became the first rehabilitation hospital ever to be accredited as a ChildKind hospital by ChildKind International (CKI) — recognized for its commitment to pediatric pain prevention as part of its approach to pediatric rehabilitation.

CKI encourages healthcare organizations to adopt standardized, institution-wide, collaborative prevention and treatment approaches to treat pain in pediatric patients. CKI’s five principles are overall institutional commitment; education; assessment; protocols for pain prevention and treatment; and self-monitoring and continuous quality improvement.

"This designation is such a big deal — it recognizes our Grainger Pediatric Lab and Pediatric Innovation Center as a leader in pediatric pain prevention,” said Nicholette Andrews, APN, a pediatric clinical nurse specialist at Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 who helped spearhead the CKI application efforts over several years. “Managing pediatric pain is at the forefront of the care we provide. Collaboration and compassion are at the very heart of our culture — and this is what drives our commitment to pediatric patients."

As the latest Chicago-area healthcare organization to earn CKI accreditation, Shirley Ryan 小恩雅 officially joins , a group that encourages every hospital that treats children to be more focused on pediatric pain.
