Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) often results in “hidden” disabilities.
While the video was designed to teach paramedics and other first responders how to recognize the implications of TBI and support appropriate treatment in other emergency situations, it also offers helpful strategies for the families and caregivers of TBI survivors.
Part 1 (6.5 minutes) offers an overview of TBI, including:
--Cognitive Deficits
--Speech and Language Deficits
--Behavioral and Emotional Issues
Part 2 (11.5 minutes) goes into more detail, including the need for a full medical assessment during emergency treatment.
This video was funded by a grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) and is part of the Midwest Regional Traumatic Brain Injury Model System at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
