RRTC: Knowledge Translation Projects
Our RRTC Knowledge Translation (KT) projects cover many topics with the goal of increasing support for employment for individuals in vocational rehabilitation.
Research Project
Tracking spasticity in acute stroke
The proposed experiments use well-defined protocols with minimal risk from chronic stroke survivor research to test the monosynaptic reflex and TVR responses. We also gather clinical data in the acute and chronic stroke survivors.
Research Project
Evaluating the Use of Acute Intermittent Hypoxia to Improve Symptoms in Persons with Multiple Sclerosis
This pilot study (akin to our SCI pilot) evaluates if AIH will augment motor function in the lower limbs of PwMS.
Research Project
HANDS: A Multi-Center Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Intermittent Hypoxia Therapy in Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury
This study investigates the effectiveness of daily acute intermittent hypoxia therapy (dAIH), coupled with a massed practice intervention or the use of high repetition training with the Rapael Glove, to improve upper-extremity function in individuals with chronic incomplete cervical SCI.
Research Project
Characterization of serum biomarkers in individuals with SCI receiving Acute Intermittent Hypoxia
We seek to quantify the serum inflammatory markers in individuals with SCI, and correlate inflammation with responsiveness to AIH therapy.
Research Project
The effect of botox on the hyperexcitability of the stretch reflex in spasticity
The objective of this study is to measure the electrical activity of single muscle fibers and to determine how this electrical activity changes after botulinum toxin injections.
Research Project
COMPLETE: Walking Improvement for the Spinal Cord Injured with Exoskeleton: New Technology
This study aims to compare exoskeleton gait training with standard gait training in incomplete spinal cord injury.
Research Project
COMPLETE: Environmental Imaging and Control for Exoskeletons: New Technology
The purpose of this study is to develop an environmental Imaging and Control for Exoskeletons to Improve Safety and Mobility.
Research Project
COMPLETE: Andago? Body Weight Supported Gait Training Feasibility
The purpose of this study was to understand the impact of the Andago? gait training device (Hocoma?AG, Switzerland)?applied during clinical inpatient rehabilitation.
Research Project
COMPLETE: Development of a 3D Imaging and Classification System for Exoskeleton Systems
The purpose of this study was to develop a 3D Imaging and Classification System for Exoskeleton Systems.
Research Project
COMPLETE: LifeWalker? Upright Laboratory-Based Research Study
The?purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of the LifeWalker Upright (Model J100) versus a standard rollator and predicate assistive device on gait function in adults using a walker with or without back pain.
Research Project
Skeletal Muscle Design in Animals and People
Purpose of skeletal muscle is to produce force and, ultimately, movement. As such, this highly specialized tissue has been studied extensively by bioengineers.
